If you own a small business or happen to be a consultant or contractor, you've probably come across the hurdle of deciding whether or not accounting and inventory software are completely necessary. Exigo for iPad is a good option for those that just need numbers to turn over to their account and invoices and estimates to give to their clients without the headache and expense of extensive programs that never get fully utilized.
Exigo for iPad isn't mean to replace an accountant or accounting software but it does aim to make tracking things for small business owners and contractors much more manageable. Natively Exigo allows you to track sales receipts, invoices, estimates, tasks, and bills. To use the invoice and bills feature, they're each an additional $1.99 via in-app purchase. For the price, it's still a lot cheaper than using separate programs or services.
While Exigo won't be a great solution for businesses that do large volumes of sales or need to track a moving inventory, it's a fully capable option for contractors and consultants. You can even track your tasks and todo's inside one app so you don't have more than one service to maintain. One thing I'd really like to see Exigo add is an ability to back up to iCloud. If you're depending on it to store your information, iCloud or another syncing service would give more peace of mind that data is safe in the event that an iTunes backup fails or something happens to your device.

Even as Time Warner Cable's relationship with CBS keeps the tag "it's complicated" the cable company has launched a version of its TWC TV app for Samsung's Smart TV platform. We've seen prototypes in years past, but now that it's officially available the app is ready to run on 2012 and 2013 model year TVs. Unlike some of the other versions, this one is video on-demand compatible only, although support for live TV channels is promised by the end of the year. If you don't have a Samsung TV but do have Time Warner Cable, we've heard some more information about plans for other platforms. The Xbox 360 app (with Kinect support) is due in early to mid August, while updates for Android / iOS / Roku are expected in the next few months. There's no firm confirmation of a client for Sony's gaming consoles, but the PS3 is still listed on internal documents, so we'll have to wait and see on that. Samsung TV owners can snag the app by hitting the Smart Hub button on their remote or downloading it from the video category in the app store, let us know if it's worth the wait.

Making old photography new again is all the rage these days. Although The Impossible Project's Instant Lab isn't due to launch until late August, the company decided to debut the companion iOS app today in the iTunes store. It's a little early to the party since users won't be able to capitalize on all of its features without the Instant Lab, but there are still some options to fiddle around with while you wait. The free app functions as part lab extension, part scanner; you can digitize your analog photos with the scanning feature before sharing them with your buddies. Once the Impossible Instant Lab is available for purchase, you'll be able to use your iPhone 4 (or above) to turn your digital photos into faux-vintage Polaroid-style prints. You'll have to sit tight until August 29th to unlock the app's true potential, but if you're impatient, you can download it at the source link below.

It seems that the curious case of the sluggish Nexus 7 has been solved with the inclusion of TRIM support in Android 4.3. TRIM is essentially a way for the device's software to communicate with the on-board storage to let it know when blocks are sitting unused and ready for garbage collection. This is a necessary process, because when a user "deletes" files on a device, the file isn't actually removed from storage but simply marked as being available space to be cleared later when it is needed by the system. Unless TRIM is working to actually clear up those unused blocks, they will still be considered full by the storage itself.
For previous versions of Android TRIM wasn't enabled, which led to slower and slower I/O performance over time -- something that hit the Nexus 7 particularly hard. Luckily thanks to some investigation and testing by AnandTech, it is confirmed that the Android 4.3 update is bringing TRIM support to not only the Nexus 7 but every Nexus device.
