Report: iPad Mini to Feature Sharp IGZO Display, Cost $250

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: The iPad Mini is the Apple rumor that refuses to die.

The latest in the long, twisted history of the fabled miniature tablet is that it will feature a 330ppi, 7.85-inch IGZO display made by Sharp. Today’s news comes by way of “various analysts” at a Chinese language site called MyDrivers.com.

IGZO is a new fabrication technique that makes displays thinner, higher in contrast, and less power-hungry than current display technology. The third-generation iPad was also rumored to be spec’d with an IGZO display before it debuted. When the tablet eventually shipped, IGZO was off the table.

In addition to utilizing Sharp’s latest display technology, the 7.85-inch tablet is expected to be priced at $250 — comparable with the $200 Kindle Fire or Nexus 7 — with a higher-end Apple model at $300.

These rumors jibe with what we’ve been hearing for a while now. If the iPad Mini is on Apple’s roadmap, we could be seeing it as soon as the end of this year. But again, that’s what we’ve been hearing since before the first iPad debuted.
